Pie for me!
March 30 2011

I'm a pretty lucky guy. I happen to have a friend who lives nearby and is an aspiring chef. She is always working on her art, and as a by-product, she has plenty of amazing food to offer her friends...like me. Well, I couldn't turn down the opportunity to shoot the next dessert which came my way, even though the desire to eat it was very overwhelming at the time. I had to mock up a quick soft product box (or cone in this situation) to capture all the detail in the pies.

Baby Room Completed!
March 20 2011

Finally finished the baby room after eight months of planning, painting, and deliberating and I must say that it looks half decent! I incorporated as many elements from the original hand drawings as I possibly could in a nice balance of painting and repositionable stickers. In the end, I used stickers for the fish just because it was easier to get the “look” I wanted without all the painful airbrushing and painting of the detailed and colourful fish. The palm tree wraps across three walls and I incorporated plastic palm branches (IKEA $8 each) to give the tree a more 3D look and feel, especially with the shadows cast from the room light. Not shown in these images, I build a little hut on the island from an old bamboo blind and glued it with a hot glue gun. And to finish the room off, I nailed a plastic/rubber lizard to the tree. Thank god this project is done!

Grad Student Shoot
March 9 2011

This shoot couldn't have come together any easier. I show up at the lab, the student is all dressed up getting geared up for his candidacy exam. He is clean shaven and looking sharp in his suit. I notice the rod iron stair case outside and get him out there and click-click, we have a winner!

Apokrea Carnival Celebration
March 5 2011

The Hellenic Community of Edmonton put on quite a show this evening with dancers, both local and all the way from Calgary, demonstrating Greek traditional dances! The amazing detail to which the traditional dance costumes were made added to the exquisite presentation. The dancing was fast paced and at times difficult to capture in the darkly lit Community Center. Did I mention the great food?
