Bohemian Waxwing Welcome February 1, 2012
We definitely can't complain about the weather in Edmonton this winter. Sure we had one week of -30C weather but for the most part the winter here has been perfect!
This first week of February is going to be even more special with +4C weather each day until Sunday! Wow! So with type of weather you would expect rain instead of snow, well
that's what I thought was happing outside my house until I looked outside to see the trees filled and the ground littered with hundreds of little red hooded birds, which I
later found out to be the
Bohemian Waxwing!
They were picking at the berries on the trees just overhanging my home and some of the berries would hit the roof of the house as
they fell. I'm not sure what you would call a group or the collective of Bohemian Waxwings ( I know it is a Murder of Crows and a Murmuration of Starlings) but it was
very impressive when the majority of the Waxwings would take flight and swarm the air around my house. I took a video but somehow it just doesn't do it justice. Oh, apparently,
there are two North American Waxwings; the Cedar and the Bohemian. To tell the difference you will have to read this
link!
I guess spring has sprung! I just hope I didn't jinx us!
